Anti-biotics for low back pain?

A recent trial has found that bacteria may be causing low back pain. Some species of bacteria was found in nearly half the individuals taking part along with swelling in the adjacent bone, which is thought to be the cause of the chronic pain. And anti-biotics have been shown to alleviate the pain in most cases. It is thought the bacteria comes from the nucleus palposus the innermost part of the disc, but how exactly it got there remains yet unknown. However do not rush to get your anti-biotics yet, as bacterial infection being the cause of back pain could still be quite rare and more studies are needed to confirm these findings.
In this trial all the individuals in the trial have suffered from previously herniated disc, which must have been severe enough for the nucleus to be exposed and allow the bacteria to subsequently spread to the adjacent bone.
